Cari
Higgins
After moving to Boulder, Colorado for a corporate career with a Fortune 50 company, Cari found bikes for recreation. At the age of 30, she signed up for her first race which set off a cascade of events leading to a 10-year racing career, 8 of which were on professional teams. Cari is a 23-time National Champion on the track both in sprint and endurance events. Her international experience on the National Team was decorated with 7 Pan Am Championship medals, a couple of World Cup Medals, and she represented the USA at 4 World Track Championships and her professional team twice at Road World Championships in the team time trial. After switching from sprint to endurance on the track, Cari also enjoyed racing professionally on the road.
Cari still calls Colorado home and has built a business as a real estate agent and investor. Cycling will always be a passion and a way she connects to the community. Cari ran junior development programs for about 8 years and currently sits on the leadership committee for Boulder’s Wednesday Morning Velo program. She also sits on the board of Brake The Cycle, a non-profit Cari formed in 2011 which raises money with an annual event in Aspen to help raise individuals and communities in Zambia out of poverty by providing bikes for business and water for health. Cari also sits on the board, as the community representative, of Boulder Valley Care Network.
Greg
Allen
Greg is the CEO and Chief Research Officer for Callan LLC, an independently owned investment consulting firm with over $3 trillion in client assets. Callan works with many of the largest public and corporate pension funds, foundations, endowments, and defined contribution plans in the country helping them develop and maintain successful long-term investment programs.
Greg earned an MS in applied economics and a BA Cum Laude in economics from the University of California Santa Cruz. He is a frequent speaker on the institutional investment process and has published articles in refereed journals and other industry publications on investment related-topics.
Greg has been a bike racer, bike commuter, cycling fan, and hack mechanic since he got his first BMX bike in 1971. He has been a USAC license holder since 1988, and has competed in masters Nationals events including: road, criterium, time trial, cyclocross, mountain bike, and marathon mountain bike.
Greg has put in countless volunteer hours as ride leader, mechanic, course marshal, and “varsity sweep” in support of NorCal high school mountain biking. He has been a consistent financial supporter of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association; the NorCal Interscholastic Cycling League; Trips for Kids; Marin County Bicycle Coalition; San Francisco Bicycle Coalition; World Bicycle Relief, and the USA Cycling Development Foundation.
Spencer
Guinn, MD
Spencer Guinn, MD is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees from Tulane University and studied biochemistry for a year at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the University of Arkansas. Spencer serves as the medical director and head team physician for Arkansas State University. For over 20 years, Spencer has cared for ASU’s men’s and women’s athletics along with numerous local high school athletic programs. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves and served in both Forward Surgical Teams and Combat Support Hospitals in Iraq. He had multiple deployments in support of both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He has taught Tactical Medicine and Combat Surgery to Special Forces and conventional units in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, and the United States.
Spencer is a member of the Arkansas State Police SWAT team, where he serves as Medical Director and a Tactical Medic. He is the President and co-founder of the Stop the Bleeding Foundation. This non-profit foundation provides free medical training and equipment to Law Enforcement, Fire/Rescue, First Responders, and community organizations. He began road racing in the late 1990s and currently enjoys riding with friends and following the World Tour racing season.
Michael
Cole
Michael has been cycling for almost 40 years and is a licensed Level 2 USA Cycling coach. He raced on the regional amateur level for about 10 years. When he stopped racing, he began supporting the USA Cycling Development Foundation. After attending a variety of foundation events, and meeting numerous athletes, he was convinced of the value of the Foundation and was encouraged to become a member of the Champions Club and USACDF Board Member.
When not on his bike, Michael has over 25 years of experience in the design, testing and operation of RF cavities and associated systems for use on particle accelerators. He has served as Principle Investigator and/or Project Manager on several DOE SBIR (Small Business Innovative Research) Projects and large Superconducting RF R&D projects. Areas of specialization include the development and testing of RF cavities and cavity subsystems, including CW, pulsed, room temperature, cryogenic normal conducting, and cryogenic superconducting cavities. He has extensive experience with cavity commissioning and conditioning, has developed methods for cavity treatment and processing to optimize cavity performance, and has broad experience in low power testing and tuning of a variety of RF cavities as well as cavity operations including the development of automatic controls.
Michael received his B.S. in Physics from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 1985 followed in 1987 by an M.S. in Physics (Scientific Instrumentation) from the same institution. He attended U.S. Particle Accelerator School: RF Superconductivity in 1996, and Linear Accelerators in 1998. Michael retired in 2016 as a Senior Technical Specialist and Accelerator Physicist from Advanced Energy Systems, Inc. whose principal product line was advanced radiation sources utilizing accelerator technology.
Chad
Blankenship
Chad is a sports media, entertainment and marketing executive currently leading business development and growth properties at Endeavor-owned Professional Bull Riders in Colorado, where he launched the league's new team-based bull riding league, its western sports streaming network, and oversaw brand marketing. Previously he served as interim CMO for the launch of Virgin Sport; led marketing for the launch of Univision-backed El Rey Network; and was a senior marketer at ESPN, NYC2012 (New York's bid for the 2012 Olympic Games), and several award-winning advertising agencies.
He graduated from The University of Oklahoma business school (Marketing) and earned a Masters in Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica. Chad is a life-long cyclist, starting with a passion for freestylin' in the early 80s that led to road and criterium racing in the 90s and aughts, and more recently finishes in several of the nation's prominent gravel endurance races. He has been a USA Cycling member since 1990.
Lucia
Deng
By day, Lucia is a corporate transactional attorney specializing in healthcare technology. Her second career and primary passion is bikes -- of all varieties. She has been racing bikes as an amateur for almost a decade, primarily on the road, but has also raced cyclocross, track, gravel, and mountain bikes. Lucia loves reading a race and executing team tactics, as much as the post race coffee/snax hang. When not racing, Lucia loves riding with her CRCA/To Be Determined teammates, taking her CX bike out to explore gravel and singletrack, or working on technical skills on the rockiest terrain the East Coast has to offer.
Lucia has served on the Board of Directors of Century Road Club Association (CRCA), one of USA Cycling's largest clubs, for several years, and most recently as its President. She served as Women's Rep and NYC Rep & Upgrade Coordinator for the New York State Bicycle Racing Association (NYSBRA) for many years. Prior to her life as a bike racer, Lucia was an active member and ride leader for New York Cycle Club (NYCC), one of the country's largest recreational cycling clubs. The thing that keeps her coming back to bike racing year after year is the community.
Lucia is a lifelong New Yorker, with a brief stint in Boston, and currently resides in the Bronx with her two feline roommates, Alex and Bailey
Dereka
Hendon
Dereka Hendon-Barnes, serves as a Project Manager for the nation's largest public school system in New York City. Supporting 1.1 million students across five boroughs, she supports programs ranging from LGBTQ+, Gender Equity, Restorative Justice and Social Emotional Learning. She has been a competitive athlete since middle school participating in a variety of sports and later in life, she was introduced to cycling. Since then, she has become a fierce advocate for the sport and its community. She is the current president of Major Taylor Iron Riders Cycling Club and plays a supporting role for the Major Taylor Development Team. Her presidential position has helped create relationships with national and local organizations and clubs that have welcomed a new wave of African American cyclists into the sport. Dereka is a native of Las Vegas, by way of Chicago, and is currently a resident of New York City for 14 years, with her husband, who she met on a bike ride with Major Taylor Iron Riders.
Maddie
Godby
Maddie has been a member of the USA Cycling National Team since 2016. While racing on the wooden boards of a velodrome, she has represented Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics in the keirin and sprint, won World Cups, medaled at the Pan-American Championships, earned numerous national titles and national records, and was the first American woman to gain an exclusive invitation to race professionally on the Japanese Keirin circuit.
Off the bike, Maddie earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Health & Wellness Promotion from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs and graduated magna cum laude in 2018. She is currently pursuing a Master of Public Health degree in Population Mental Health & Wellbeing from the Colorado School of Public Health (University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus).
Maddie is passionate about athlete well-being and will advocate for improvements to the high-performance system that allow both athletes and the organization to benefit, as well as promoting diversity efforts within all levels of the sport.
Meredith
Miller
Meredith first began racing bikes in 1998 in Madison, WI after wrapping up her collegiate soccer career at the UW. She then went on to become a professional cyclist for over 10 years in both road and cyclocross. In 2009 she represented the United States at the UCI Road World Championships after winning the US Road National Championships in Bend, OR. Miller was also a member of Team USA at the UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships from 2010-16. Since retiring in 2016, bikes have remained a part of her daily life as she still rides regularly around her hometown of Boulder, CO. When not participating in events herself, Miller will often be heard doing commentary at races such as the US Cyclocross National Championships.
Off the bike, Miller started her post-racing career at Rapha Boulder and is now the Road Sports Marketing Specialist at Shimano. Miller also sits on the board of Boulder Junior Cycling, which allows her to give back directly to youth sports in her hometown community, and the Ozark Outdoor Foundation, which helps bring outdoor recreational activities to the communities of Northwest Arkansas.
Melanie
Strong
Mel has spent her career building high performing teams, with a commitment to creating positive culture change through sports and health. This work includes her 17 years at Nike, driving international businesses across running, soccer/football and action sports. She helped launch the Nike Run Club and Nike Training Club apps, and was most recently Vice President and General Manager for Nike Skateboarding. She co-founded investing firm NEXT VENTŪRES in 2019, inspired by the potential for new businesses to innovate in the health and wellness space. She sits on the boards of performance brands Momentous and Honey Stinger, as well as non-profits Women in Sports Tech and Outdoor Afro. She also runs a mountain bike tour guiding company with her husband in Hood River, Oregon. She was an editor at Runner’s World magazine, and joined the company’s corporate Italian pursuit race team. She was hooked from there, developing a lifelong love affair with bikes. She is co-president of Team Finger, the largest cycling team in Hood River.
ALISON
TETRICK
Alison Tetrick has been a professional cyclist for the last five years and currently races for Optum Pro Cycling presented by Kelly Benefit Strategies. Tetrick helped Astana-BePink to a 2014 World Championships bronze medal in the team time trial and has represented the United States at the Pan American Games, Tour of Qatar, Giro Rosa and the Tour of New Zealand.
Tetrick serves on the Board of Advisory for the Women's Cycling Association and works with Amgen's Breakaway from Cancer. She is passionate about advocacy, and growing the sport of cycling through increasing awareness and professionalism. Tetrick is also in graduate school for neuropsychology.
