Meet the Athlete
Jack started riding bikes when he was 3-4 years old and not long after he started riding without training wheels and setting up ramps in the street and trying to get air. He loved the feeling of being on two wheels and getting that adrenaline rush. One day, his dad took him to the local BMX track and he started to get into racing. Combining his love for riding with his competitiveness, he was hooked and eventually was at the track every weekend. After racing BMX for a while, he tried cyclocross and mountain bike racing and they have become his main focus since. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, the local scene for cyclocross and mountain bike racing was strong. Him and his family were racing almost every weekend. His first taste of racing on a national level was the 2015 Cyclocross National Championships in Austin. He had no idea what to expect of himself but ended finishing 4th. From that moment, it lit a fire in Jack to work to get higher up on the podium. After that he went to every CX and MTB Nationals and slowly accumulated more medals and podium finishes until 2019 when CX Nationals came to Washington, just an hour away from his house, on a course he raced countless times. Everything came together on the day and he was able to win. This gave him a huge confidence boost but unfortunately soon after, the pandemic hit. While it was a struggle not being able to race for a whole year, he spent a lot of time riding with close friends making memories and really learning to enjoy the process of training and just riding his bike. He’s continued to use this mindset to focus on things he can control rather than just having his emotions fluctuate with race results. In 2021, he raced his first full seasons of UCI mountain bike and cyclocross racing accumulating highlights with several podiums in the U.S. and Europe, wins, and a Pan-American Championship. Shortly after the beginning of the new year, he had the amazing opportunity to represent the U.S. at the 2022 Cyclocross World Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas. A surreal experience considering that was only the second time they’ve been held outside of Europe. While his race wasn’t his best, the experience of racing in front of the U.S. fans was something he’ll remember forever.
