The 2023 USA Cycling Collegiate Track National Championships concluded on Saturday after three days of competition. Colorado State University and Marian University took home the coveted Team Omnium awards in their respective fields. Winning in the Varsity division, Marian made a triumphant return as the track cycling team to beat after losing the title for the first time in sixteen years in 2022 to Colorado Mesa University. Colorado State started the weekend with a solid lead and increased it as the event progressed.
Sprints
The competition began on Thursday with the sprint qualification event. Stephanie Lawrence (Colorado Springs, Colo.; Marian University) set the fast time for the women, stopping the clock at 12.273. With a 10.710, Mateo Marasas (Buenos Aires, Argentina; Lindsey Wilson College) showed a clear advantage over the rest of the field, with his closest competitor over two-tenths of a second behind him. As the sprints progressed into the evening session on Thursday, Lawrence and Marasas went through the tournament undefeated, eventually claiming their respective national titles.

Team Pursuit
Thursday's morning session saw the first national titles awarded, with the team pursuit taking the spotlight. The 4,000-meter, four-person event was held for women and men in a race to beat the clock. Colorado Mesa University's women's squad of Mia Aseltine (Littleton, Colo.), Katie Clouse (Park City, Utah), Olivia Cummins (Fort Collins, Colo.), and Kate Seiler (Louisville, Ky.) won in a time of 5:00.294. Marian University's Luke Arens (Coralville, Iowa), Amir Danel (Indianapolis, Ind.), Jonah Hover (Allentown, Pa.), and Fred Meredith (Indianapolis, Ind.) won the men's event in 4:25.000.

Scratch Race
The Scratch Races took to the track Friday evening, providing exciting mass start racing for the session. Emiliano Mirafuentes (San Nicolas, Mexico; Savannah College of Art & Design) won the Men's Scratch Race by winning the field sprint by less than a bike length over Milligan University's Brody McDonald (Escondido, Calif.) and Piedmont College's Preston Eye (Sugar Hill, Ga.). McDonald and Eye claimed silver and bronze, respectively. For the women, Marian's Lawrence surged out of the field in the last lap, putting over 30 meters between herself and the field, securing her another national title from the event. Cummins of Colorado Mesa won the field sprint and earned the silver.

Individual Pursuit
Competing over 4,000 meters, the Men's Individual Pursuit had 40 riders on the start list. Dillon Geary (Saint Charles, Mo.; Lindenwood University) stopped the clock at 4:37.786, earning the gold in the event. Luke Arens (Coralville, Iowa; Marian University) placed second 2.113 seconds behind Geary. The Women's Individual Pursuit ran for nine laps of the 333-meter track for 3,000 meters. Marian University's Elizabeth Stevenson (Rochester Hills, Mich.; Marian University) and Mairen Lawson (Grande Prairie, Calif.; Marian University) went one-two in the event, both going under four minutes. Stevenson won in a time of 3:49:459. Lawson, the silver medallist, was 6.287 seconds behind her teammate.

Time Trial
Adding another jersey to her collection for the weekend, Lawrence proved fastest in the Women's 500-meter Time Trial with a time of 37.028 seconds. Her teammate and Pursuit winner, Stevenson, took the silver. Marasas of Lindsey Wilson also added to his hardware haul, winning the Men's 1,000-meter Time Trial. Milligan University's Adin Papell (Murrieta, Calif.) was second in the event.

Points Race
The Men's Points Race final was a thrilling, action-packed event, with eleven of the 24 starters taking a lap on the field. In the end, Lindenwood's Geary secured his second win of the event. He just edged out McDonald of Milligan in the final points tally, winning by three points. Colorado Mesa's Seiler took a commanding lead in the Women's Points Race as the only rider to take a lap on the rest of the field. Silver medallist Elizabeth Harden (Greenville, S.C.; Piedmont College) had a solid performance, placing in the majority of the point sprints.

Omniums
The ultimate award at the Collegiate Track National Championships is the Omnium Award. The omnium is the best all-around performance for individuals and teams, Varsity and Club. Marian University's Lawrence claimed the Women's Omnium title with dominating wins in the Sprints, Time Trial, and Scratch Race. McDonald of Milligan, who claimed silver in the Points Race and Scratch Race and a bronze in the Pursuit, won the Men's Omnium. The battle for the team omniums was a close race between Marian University, Milligan University, and Colorado Mesa University in the Varsity category, with Marian taking home the top honors. Colorado State University took an early lead in the Club category over San Jose State University and maintained the lead throughout.
