Ruth was born and raised in Colorado where she was always adventuring outdoors with her friends and family. For the first ten years of her life, she lived in Boulder, where she attended a bilingual school and learned in both English and Spanish, learned how to ride a bike, joined the swim team, did karate, played soccer, ran cross country, and even attempted basketball. At the time, she was not a huge fan of cycling and spent most of her time in the pool with big swimming aspirations. At the end of fourth grade, her family moved to Durango. That summer, her mom signed the kids up for bike camp with the local Durango DEVO program and the rest is history. Throughout middle school, she had the privilege of riding with cycling legends such as Ned Overend, Howard Grotts, Todd Wells, Kaylee and Christopher Blevins, and so many others. In high school, all of her best friends rode bikes and they all trained together and were basically inseparable.

Freshman year of high school, she was lucky enough to find Bear National Team. This really opened her eyes to the cycling world and at 15 years old, she started traveling all over the country to ride her bike. She fell in love with the team and the sport and began putting more focus into racing. As a 17-18, she was able to travel over to Europe for the World Championships twice as well as a third trip to gain racing experience across the pond. It was at these races that she realized how much she loved racing and wanted to continue to pursue it. She was dealt a fair amount of bad luck with broken bones and illness in her junior years, and it wasn't until her second year 17-18, she finally got to line up and race a national championship where she won her first Short Track and Cross-Country national titles as well as a Pan American Championship title. she was also on the USA Team Relay team that took home the silver medal at Val Di Sole for the 2021 World Championships.
